How to get highly advanced knowledge from scientific research applied in industry? For a number of years now, the Embedded Systems Institute (ESI) tries to answer this question. ESI does this by means of technological collaboration projects. The first ESI project presented its results; a true example of the results from our knowledge society.
Océ Technologies, a leading company in professional printing and document management, was the first to make this step to do research with ESI for new ways to design complex high-tech systems. Together with ESI and a number of industrial and scientific partners, the Boderc research project adopted the idea of ‘industry-as-laboratory'. According to this idea, the applicability of a scientific solution of a problem has to be proven in an industrial setting. In this specific project, the applicability for professional printers of Océ needed to be proven.
The Boderc project started end of 2002 and over a period of 4 years a large number of researchers worked intensively together with 6 PhD students. This form of cooperation is truly unique. ESI coordinated this research project, with significant participation from Imtech, Chess-IT, Philips Applied Technologies and the universities of Eindhoven, Twente and Nijmegen.
December 20, 2006, the scientific research results from this project and the added value for the industry were presented and celebrated in a one-day symposium at the High-tech campus in Eindhoven.
The research results are published in the book ‘Boderc: Model based design of high-tech systems'. This book, released at the symposium, can be downloaded.
